Why come to Milford Academy ?

In accordance with the mission of the Milford Academy, the concentration of the
school is on the student athlete. The school prides itself on its ability to help
student athletes receive full four-year athletic scholarships to institutions of
higher learning. For the last two years 98% of Milford Academy graduates have gone
on to higher education with two thirds (2/3) of these having full four-year
scholarships.

Milford Academy structures its academic program to help the student athlete meet
the rigorous clearance requirements of the NCAA. Without NCAA clearance you cannot
participate in the various divisions of college sports, nor be eligible for an
athletic scholarship. Intense preparation for the ACT college board is a major part
of the program of studies at Milford Academy.

Milford Academy gets your abilities noticed. The Milford Academy sports program
includes a schedule of games that allows the student athlete to play against
Division I, Division II, and Division III teams. Game visits to the top colleges
in the country provide a sense of direction when selecting higher education.

Getting your life in order, and learning to be self sufficient, is part of the
experience of living away from home. Milford Academy is not a military academy.
While students are provided a structured environment, they are encouraged to both
think and act for themselves. Milford Academy, is primarily a boarding school, you
learn what its like to be at college, with new freedoms and responsibilities. Your
best way to learn the personal disciplines of becoming "your own person" is to
experience it first hand.

For most students, Milford Academy provides the beginning experience in higher
education. Students leave prepared with confidence and determination to succeed
in life.
I am still in High School, should I come to Milford Academy ?

Milford Academy can graduate you with a High School diploma. However leaving your
existing High School depends on a number of factors. If you are an exceptional
athlete and there is concern about your grades or courses, yes.

If you are allowed to graduate from High School with a low GPA, you may be ineligible
to receive NCAA clearance, this may prevent you from participation in college sports
or receipt of an athletic scholarship. Milford Academy can help better your scores in
the required core courses.

If you graduate High School with a good GPA, you still may be ineligible for NCAA
clearance. Your courses of study may not have been the ones accepted by the NCAA, this
may prevent you from participation in college sports, or an athletic scholarship.
Milford Academy can help with the correct core courses.

If your ACT / SAT scores need improvement, Milford Academy can help.

The bottom line is this. If you are a serious athlete, and graduate High School
missing some of the rigorous requirements of the NCAA, you are out of luck. Its
better to transfer to Milford Academy, correct the overall picture, and get on the
right track.

Since the school population primarily consists of athletes, the environment is
significantly different from what you may be accustomed to.

Athletes are competitive, they are team players, they love a challenge, and usually
demonstrate great leadership skills by virtue of their confidence in their ability to
get things done. By being immersed in this environment there is a good chance some of these virtues will become yours as well. At the least, you will have the confidence to perform well in similar life situations because of your experience in this unique environment.

Non-athletes are required to undergo the same rigorous ACT college board preparation
and class load.

Non-athletes can travel with the teams and visit various universities.

If your goal is to experience a unique and competitve environment, coupled with strong
academic preparation, Milford Academy is a great choice.

States, understand its competitive nature, and be immersed in a culture which
develops leadership, commitment, and integrity.
